Academics: Cross & Crown Lutheran School

Cross and Crown Lutheran School prepares children for a lifetime of learning. Our experienced, credentialed, and certified staff will guide them through our comprehensive curriculum that celebrates the "whole" child. Partnering with parents, we address the spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development of our students.

We place importance on nurturing the fulfillment of each child's God-given purpose, thereby following God's command to train up a child in the ways of the Lord. — Proverbs 22:6

At CCLS, our goal is to teach the rudimentary educational skills to your child, as well as creating an environment that harnesses the development of a responsible Christian citizen. The skills that your children will be learning are listed in the following link.

Chapel

Weekly Wednesday Chapel services give our students an opportunity to worship the Lord God through prayer and music while listening to the Bible stories about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All parents are invited to join in our weekly service. Monthly, our students apply the Biblical principles they have learned, through various service projects. Over the years, our students have participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, Operation Christmas Child, The Heifer Project, and The Pajama Project, to name a few. This year's service project is, "George Mark Children's House," in San Leandro. Additionally, we collect donations for disaster relief and food for local charities such as, "Neighbors Organized Against Hunger," (NOAH). We encourage the children to spread the love of Christ while thinking of others in their community and throughout the world.

Preschool

Our preschool class begins at age 2. Your child will learn how to reduce parent/child separation anxiety, develop self-help skills, learn to interact with their peers, and develop cognitive and fine/gross motor skills. This class transitions into our Pre-Kindergarten class as your child grows physically, mentally, emotionally and scholastically. Using small group and integrated, thematic instruction, your child will develop independent exploration skills in mathematics, early literacy, social studies, and science concepts. Your child will continue learning through creative play experiences which further cognitive development. All of this is taught within the framework of a loving Christian environment.

Pre-Kindergarten class

Preparing our students for the requirements of Kindergarten, our curriculum is rich in weekly thematic instruction. Letter recognition and reading readiness, early mathematical concepts, social development, and fine and gross motor skills are emphasized for individual success. Your child will blossom through small and large group instruction with caring, nurturing, Christian teachers.

Transitional Kindergarten Program

This program serves as a bridge between Preschool and Kindergarten, providing students with time to develop fundamental skills in an encouraging and nurturing environment. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is designed around an age-appropriate curriculum that is differentiated for individual learners. Creating a quality early learning experience for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) includes three critical components: developing and teaching the whole child; integrated and diverse activities; and social/emotional development. Curriculum and the environment are closely tied with the environment providing additional direction, support, and instruction in much the same way as an additional teacher.

Elementary

Our Elementary School is a place where teachers, parents, and students work together sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ within a comprehensive academic environment. Your child will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare him/her for leadership in our ever-changing world. Through individual attention and small class sizes, experienced, credentialed educators committed to “Developing Responsible Christian Citizens,” teach core subjects and a fine arts curriculum. Our elementary school ranges from a full-day Jr. Kindergarten program through the 6th grade. We also offer a Private School Satellite Program for home-schooled students.

Jr. Kindergarten

Kindergarten readiness is a major focus, as is allowing students to progress at their own pace without pressure. Letter sounds and word identification, as well as early writing skills are emphasized. Early mathematics, science, and social science are included to round out the curriculum. Your child will gain self-confidence and the readiness skills needed to build a firm foundation for a successful Kindergarten year.

Kindergarten

These early years in a child’s life are so very vital. They are the foundation on which all the following years of schooling are based, and your Kindergartner is like a sponge soaking up every bit of knowledge he/she can get. Our Kindergarten program invites children to learn about God’s World around them, while organizing information and problem-solving. This, in turn increases feelings of self-worth, confidence, the ability to work with others, and an interest in challenging tasks. In our Christ-centered environment, a combination of formal and informal activities and projects allow the children to work in groups and on their own, thereby developing cooperative skills and self-esteem building. Kindergarten students discover that learning about the world God made is fun and meaningful.

1st/2nd Grade

The average 6 and 7 year old is growing more independent and adventurous, and peers become more independent in decision-making. It is the job of the experienced teacher to understand these complexities and create an environment where the 6 and 7 year old can blossom using his/her enthusiasm for adventure. New ideas help to increase academic capabilities while building relationships with peers, family, and Christ.

3rd/4th Grade

Growing into an upper elementary student can require a lot from a child. At CCLS, we provide a safe environment where 3rd and 4th grade students’ differences are celebrated and supported. Students acquire the knowledge, skills, strategies, and concepts they will need for successful participation in an increasingly technological and global society. Educational benchmarks are only part of the 3rd and 4th graders’ day at CCLS. A Christ-centered environment allows each student to build knowledge and confidence at their individualized level and build relationships with peers, family, and Christ.

5th/6th Grade

Fifth and sixth grades bring many changes into the lives of the 10- and 11-year-old child. The transition to 5th and 6th grade can be challenging because of all of the new changes physically, socially and academically. At CCLS emphasis is placed upon core language arts and mathematical skills attained in the lower grades and putting together all that has been acquired to prepare this upper elementary student for the demands of middle school. This is achieved in a Christ-centered environment where your child’s individual views can be expressed and respected.
